Conceptual Self Portraits

"I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best."
-Frida Kahlo

I did some of my greatest personal and artistic growth when I started doing self portraits. I found that it truly helped me understand the concepts, the poses, the emotions and all the in between that goes into making an art piece.
I however, had gotten burnt out with concepts.
Burnt out with self portraits.
Burnt out with the feeling of so many emotions.
Burnt out with the set up.
Burnt out with the tear down.

I missed it.
My soul missed the process.
It is a bit of work to do a conceptual self portrait but in the end it is actually easier for me.
I know what emotion I want to portray.
I am always there so I can try out the concepts on a whim.
I don't have to try to explain to someone my vision.
I just do it.

I learned last night through creating a scene.
Creating an atmosphere.
And through feeling through my lens.
That I need to get back into doing this more.

"I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint whatever passes through my head without any other consideration."
-Frida Kahlo

Dress is from Suds in the Bucket.
And my lovely husband building me a fire out of wet wood. This shoot wouldn't have happened without his help.

Peace and Love!
